Why this label

The EUR 200 billion figure comes from the bank's own summary of its commissioned investigationS3. That summary describes it as the total flow of payments by about 15,000 customers, not as a suspicious or laundered amount. The bank said the vast majority of some 6,200 high-risk customers it analysed were suspicious, and it expected a significant part of payments to be suspicious. It said it could not estimate the suspicious amountS3. The later US guilty plea concerned bank fraud against US banks and cites US$160 billion processed through US banks for the portfolioS1. The record supports large suspicious flows. It does not support calling the whole EUR 200 billion suspicious or launderedS4.

Current procedural position

No authority has fixed a laundered or suspicious total. US and Danish resolutions were concluded on 13 December 2022S5 and US probation ended on 13 December 2025S6.
