Why this label

The FSCA did impose a R1.5 billion administrative penalty under the Financial Markets ActS2. The same statement remitted most of it, so Steinhoff paid R53 million. The FSCA cited the fraud on the group by former employees and officers, the company's finances and a wish to avoid penalising shareholders furtherS2. A Moonstone review of August 2026 reports the FSCA as saying the R53 million was paid before the restructuring into Ibex Group HoldingsS3. A claim that Steinhoff was penalised R1.5 billion is accurate on the headline figure but goes beyond the record on what the company had to pay.

Current procedural position

Administrative penalty imposed and remitted on 16 September 2019, R53 million paid before restructuring according to an August 2026 reportS2S3.
